9/100 = 0.09 = 9%
75/100 = 0.75 = 75%
10/50 - You need to turn the 50 into 100 so multiply by 2! Do not forget to do the same to the numerator! So it becomes 20/100. You now know that it is 20% and 0.2!

Their literacy home learning is to write a letter explaining why they do not think graffiti should be displayed around the school!
Their numeracy home learning is linked with the multiplication work we have been doing. They have a target number they need to reach with either a 3 or 4 digit number multiplied by a 1 digit number.
They must not use a multiple of 10 or 100 to make it a challenge!

Christmas Holidays!
Over the holidays there will be no set home learning, however I have sent them home with their IXL passwords and their new 'reading eggs' username and passwords. They should be spending a couple hours on each over the holidays. I will be able to track what they are doing and how they are getting on!
On IXL I would like you to focus on addition/subtraction and multiplication. Feel free to go onto the year 5 page if you are finding it a little tricky, or move up to year 7 if you feel like a challenge!

Detective Character Description!
As we have reached the end of our ‘detective’ topic in literacy, I would like you to produce a character description for a famous detective character of your choice! I have chosen a few below to help if you are stuck for an idea!
Sherlock Holmes Nancy Drew Miss Marple
You can of course use your own character from your own story that we planned last week! When you have chosen your character, draw an image on them in the middle of your page. Use this to then label your character with descriptions about who they are, what they look like and their type of personality. This will then help you to write up your character description!

Remember...

For your home learning this week I would like to draw a plan of Titanic and label it. You can include the number of passengers, number of cabins (1st, 2nd and 3rd class) and any other facts we have talked about this week.
Wednesday 10th October
Next week we will be starting our new topic 'Storms and Shipwrecks'. Therefore, for your home learning this week, I would like you to research into the famous shipwreck 'Titanic'.
See if you can find out...
What date did it set sail?
Where did its voyage begin?
What caused the sinking?
What date did it sink?
How many people survived?
And any other interesting facts you find...
A certificate will be given out each week to one child who completes their home learning with the most effort!
Here is a link to a website that will help you..

Wednesday 3rd October
For your home learning this week, I would like you to pick a setting from one of your favourite stories or one that you know well. With this setting, I would like you to write three complex sentences to describe it.
TIPS...
A complex sentence has a main and subordinate clause.
Each clause must have a verb and a subject!
Try to not make the sentences too long!
Use this website to help you...

We are also going to be testing your times tables! Next week we are testing your 4's, 6's and 8's!
Wednesday 26th September
For your home learning this week I would like you to write a blurb for your favourite story.
Tips to remember...
Introduce the main character.
Describe the setting and plot.
Finish with a question or short sentence that keep the reader interested!
Here is an example one from 'The Wizard of Oz' to help you...
Open these pages and be whirled away with Dorothy, to the magical Land of Oz. Meet a talking scarecrow, a rusty tinman and a cowardly lion, and follow and their amazing adventures as they search for their heart's desire.
Wednesday 19th September
As we have come to an end with our poetry writing and our topic 'The Wizard of Oz', I would like you to create your own poem using an object from the story e.g. ruby slippers, witches wand or the oil can. I would like to see lots of personification and imagery!
REMEMBER: We do not use the word 'like' or 'as' in personification.
Wednesday 12th September
For the homework this week I would like you to have a look at the front page of different newspapers. Take an example of one and annotate it, what you need to include on a front page. I would also like you to look closely at the language in the text and the title. This can be stuck into your home learning book.
This will be due in on Monday!
Click here to read a little about newspapers...
Spellings have also gone home and will be tested on Monday.
